Milwaukee – In a career move that belies his time opening for everyone from Bob Dylan to U2, former BoDeans rock legend Sam Llanas has joined the cast of the critically acclaimed drama Day for Grace.

The play, which weaves the true-life tale of playwright and lead actor Doug Vincent’s
tumultuous youth, features Llanas in live nightly performances of music from his 1998 album A Good Day To Die.

“Every issue addressed in the play – from bullying and mental illness to alcoholism and suicide – is
also addressed on Sam’s album” said Llanas’ manager Gary Tanin in a recent interview. “What’s
even more astonishing is that the playwright had never even heard of this album before writing
the play.”

Together with the haunting music of A Good Day to Die, A Day for Grace tells the true story of a family struggling with a myriad of relevant contemporary issues that culminate in the suicide of the playwright’s father, and the eventual birth of his daughter and the play’s namesake, Grace.

A story filled with hope and redemption, the play opened to sold-out audiences across the U.S. in 2012. With performances in Colorado and the Midwest, A Day for Grace completed its initial run in New York City, where critics responded with reviews like “Brilliant!” (Woman Around Town, NYC) and “You’ll laugh and cry and hold your breath in anticipation” (Electronic Link Journal, NYC).

Every member of the production team – including Llanas – has lost a family member to suicide. In addition to being able to perform and share a story that is both entertaining and redemptive, Vincent and his 501(c)3 nonprofit Boulder StoryHealers conducts workshops for suicide survivors, giving audiences another way to connect with this universal story of hope and healing.

“I’m so grateful to be a part of this project” said Llanas from his home in Milwaukee. “It’s a very different medium from performing with a band, but the opportunity to explore this music in a context so close to my heart couldn’t be passed up.”

In April, 2013, A Day for Grace will launch a massive fundraising campaign for the production’s return to New York in September of this year. Multiple performance weeks are scheduled in Milwaukee and Chicago, giving Midwest audiences a chance to experience a production that is Broadway-bound.

With producer’s sessions scheduled in New York and the support of Llanas’ local fan base in the Midwest, A Day for Grace is primed to take Vincent’s message of hope to the world stage.
