EAGLES OF DEATH METAL REDEFINE ‘ROCK OUT WITH YOUR COCK OUT’ WITH ZIPPER DOWN

Eagles of Death Metal's newest album Zipper Down has what it takes to lift you up as well!

Eagles of Death Metal’s newest album Zipper Down has what it takes to lift you up as well!

Eagles of Death Metal, better known as Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes (or even further known as Baby Duck and Boots Electric, respectively) have coexisted with Homme and Hughes’ other projects such as Homme owning Queens Of The Stone Age and being a part time member of Them Crooked Vultures, as well as captaining the ground-breaking desert love songs that amount to the Desert Sessions. If you are not knowing about the Desert Sessions, grab your phone, your tablet, your watch, your crotch and look them up. Hughes, besides being heavily involved with his solo career as Boots Electric, finds the time to be a hardcore right wing enthusiast while still proclaiming to be socially liberal (as does Homme). But Hughes has taken it to another level, even going head-to-head with liberal mouthpiece, actress and comedian Janeane Garofalo on her radio show.

Of which I know nothing about, nor do I care to. We’re here because there’s some killer music you have to hear…

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL NEW ALBUM ZIPPER DOWN OUT NOW

Today is the day, all around the world, that Jesse Hughes and Joshua Homme, co-founders of American rock band EODM (Eagles Of Death Metal), release their fourth album, Zipper Down, on CD, digital, vinyl LP and cassette via T-Boy/UMe. EODM’s first new studio release since 2008, Zipper Down has already won media praise and wowed fans who have streamed the album via NPR Music’s exclusive “First Listen” premiere.

On Monday, October 5, EODM will appear on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! for an interview and performance.

EODM’s extensive North American touring continues this month, before the band heads back to Europe for headlining shows in November and December, including the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Italy and Spain. See the band’s website for full list of tour dates.

For the Zipper Down sessions at Pink Duck Studios in Burbank, California, Hughes and Homme co-wrote all of the album’s songs (with the exception of their cover of Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer”), and performed all of the instruments and vocals themselves. The album is produced by Homme.

“The new album, Zipper Down, really represents to me an attitude and philosophy of life,” says Hughes. “One should not zipper up, they should zipper down and let it all hang out.”

Homme (AKA “Baby Duck”) says, “In an independent study, four out of three doctors say Zipper Down is an eargasm trapped inside a crazerbeam. And I believe them.”

About the album’s lead single, Homme says, “‘Complexity’ is the musical equivalent of holding a lucky rabbit’s foot with the unlucky rabbit still attached.”

“‘Complexity’ is sort of our way of saying, ‘Keep it simple, stupid,’” adds Hughes.

Produced by VICE Media and directed by Alex Hoffman, the forthcoming feature documentary about the charismatic Hughes (AKA “Boots Electric”), The Redemption of the Devil, is an intimate and at times brutally honest portrayal of a year in the life of Jesse Hughes.

EODM was formed in 1998 in Palm Desert, California by best friends Jesse Hughes and Joshua Homme. Despite the name, EODM (Eagles Of Death Metal) is not a death metal band. The story goes that a friend was introducing Joshua Homme to the death metal genre, and Homme wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like. With that, EODM was born. The band released Peace Love Death Metal in 2004, followed by Death By Sexy in 2006, and Heart On in 2008.

I don’t much care for revisionism. Yet I get sucked into it time after time. I posted on the accompanying Facebook page for this blog, https://www.facebook.com/groups/bouleblog/, that the there will be changes on this blog. Well here they are. I tried to ‘play nice’ as the saying went. I tried to appease all the people who submitted work for me to review. I found myself watering down my utter loathing for certain acts and more importantly I was allowing my disdain for certain acts to dictate my rate of reviews. Yet after making promises to people to review music outside my comfort zone, and having those people demand edits, the not bother to repost my efforts in an effort to promote a show for these people, I’M OUT!
