Eagles of Death Metal's newest album Zipper Down has what it takes to lift you up as well!

Eagles of Death Metal’s newest album Zipper Down has what it takes to lift you up as well!

Eagles of Death Metal, better known as Josh Homme and Jesse Hughes (or even further known as Baby Duck and Boots Electric, respectively) have coexisted with Homme and Hughes’ other projects such as Homme owning Queens Of The Stone Age and being a part time member of Them Crooked Vultures, as well as captaining the ground-breaking desert love songs that amount to the Desert Sessions. If you are not knowing about the Desert Sessions, grab your phone, your tablet, your watch, your crotch and look them up. Hughes, besides being heavily involved with his solo career as Boots Electric, finds the time to be a hardcore right wing enthusiast while still proclaiming to be socially liberal (as does Homme). But Hughes has taken it to another level, even going head-to-head with liberal mouthpiece, actress and comedian Janeane Garofalo on her radio show.

Of which I know nothing about, nor do I care to. We’re here because there’s some killer music you have to hear…

WE ARE WELCOMED INTO LORD RUSS’ COURT! A REGAL, ROYAL, RENAGADE REALITY THAT WE HOPE WILL BRIGHTEN OUR LIVES AFTER MAJOR DISILLUSIONMENT…

Perhaps too late for the "Ra" era of Utopia, Lord Russ progs his way onto the Psychedelic scene.

Perhaps too late for the “Ra” era of Utopia, Lord Russ progs his way onto the Psychedelic scene.

I’ve never been much for the Ren Faire style.  My least favorite era of King Crimson?  Madrigal.  The only madrigal I could truly stomach was Genesis.  Other than that, just not my thing.

Then there is another connotation for the word “Lord”, it is resident within the BDSM community.  BDSM stands for Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, Masochism, or in layman’s terms, ‘… but whips and chains excite me’.  Oft times male dominants will title themselves ‘Lord such-and-such’ by which the submissive can only address this person.

So there’s that…

After my cursory listens, I think I would do better to identify with a traveling minstrel than a landed master…  But the minstrel keeps finding psychedelics during his journey…

This disc is titled Heir Of Mystery and has an interesting cover, from an Egyptian curiosity vantage point.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE RETURN TRIUMPHANT TO TERMINAL 5 IN NYC, 3-25-11

The new and improved Queens Of The Stone Age seminal first album. The re-release has garnered such interest that the band embarked on a tour shortly after a near-death experience by frontman Josh Homme.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:  Once again, the Friday Flashback brings you a goodie from our past.  With all the hype about the forthcoming release from Queens Of The Stone Age, …Like Clockwork, we felt it would be a good time to resurrect this review of a live performance of the band shortly after the re-release of their first, self-titled release.  With remixed tracks and additional cuts, this disc was worth buying even if you had the first edition, or if you had a copy of one of the discs that front man Josh Homme resurrected from a palate that was lost in an Interscope warehouse for approximately a decade, this version topped them all.

The only thing better than the disc, was watching the newly expanded Queens (with new members Mikey Schulman and Dean Ferita) play out these tunes and other classic Queens tunes.  Enjoy this new and improved version with YouTube videos courtesy of vizcat!

It was no surprise that the Queens Of The Stone Age (QOTSA) sold out its first tour in many years.  They left fans wanting more after their Era Vulgaris tour, and Josh Homme teased us with his super-group Them Crooked Vultures, which was also economically viable to the point where his cohorts in the band (Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Led Zepplin bassist/keyboardist/arranger John Paul Jones) want to keep the band productive.

But perhaps it was (according to Rolling Stone) Homme’s recent death scare that made people sell out this tour AND FAST!  You see, if you follow QOTSA, you know that Homme has had trouble with his knee and an emphysema-like illness since the Over The Years and Through The Woods era.  For those of you not familiar with this incident, please read on…
